It was not so long ago, Still fresh from my memories when I downloaded and installed the latest version of Linux Mint into my PC. I have to admit that I was more of a clueless guy than an expert one during those days. So I took the initiative of going to a hardware forum and created my own thread seeking the help of ‘experts’ in this field.
I am seeing views getting higher and higher but not a response yet, a day passed and still got no response at all, my thread was starting to get ‘buried’ from top of page one to page two now, so I made a second move of posting my first comment asking if could some ‘expert’ there care to advise? My thread was on top after that comment.
After an hour when it seems all hopes are gone, suddenly I saw my thread back on top, there was a response from a guy with an unusual forum name (well who doesn’t?). He mentioned that manipulating the Linux system would need a lot of knowledge about the system itself, Kernel and it’s structure. The good part is when He mentioned that the good thing with Linux Mint is that it works like Nokia mobile, it has a user friendly features that depends on my intentions on using it. The first rule of thumb I’ve learn is to use it as if I am using windows.
One of the best things I’ve learned too is that when you messed up everything, you can always rely on live CD for the Fix. I got some more response and links to serve as a guide for newbie like me to start using Linux, most of them provides basic and good stuffs. At first I was like, comparing everything to windows and see their difference until it was like I am starting to get crazy of the stuff that I can no longer notice the difference, so from there I stop comparing and focus with Linux alone, I was even a bit surprised to realized that everything was a file here.
I almost didn’t notice the time doing trial and error, reaching the Linux support, going on other forums and after few days of sitting in front of my Linux PC, it was like! hey I am now a Novice!
Care to share your purpose and experience of using Linux?
